No Sex Please, We Are Indians: No Fifty Shades Of Grey

Hollywood flick Fifty Shades of Grey is not meeting its release date. The film will not hit the theatres in India on February 13.

A source says, "Looks like the producers of the film developed cold feet to release the film in India."

SpotboyE.com has it that the film's producer, Universal Studios, did not submit the film for censorship.



When contacted, Censor Board's Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani says, "We are not supposed to chase them are we? They had applied for the censor screening. We gave them dates several times, but they did not turn up with the print."









Buzz is, some cinemas had to refund the money to those who had booked their tickets in advance. 

Expressing surprise that the makers of the film had done a U-turn, National Marketing Head of PVR Pictures Ltd, Girish Wankhede said, "I don't see a problem in releasing the film which is an adaptation of a novel (by the same name, Fifty Shades of Grey) which has been well received. A large section of people are waiting to see this film. I am surprised that it is not releasing in our country on February 13."

Fun Cinemas had anticipated that the film will not see the light of day this Friday. Anand Vishal, Head of Opeations at Fun Cinemas, says, "We decided not to open the advance booking. We knew the film will have a tough time at the censor board table. It's never going to be a smooth ride in India for a film that is laden with sex. Remember how the sex quotient in Sex Tape had to be diluted before the Censor Board eventually passed the film?"

A senior Censor Board official (on request of anonymity) said, "It is clear that the makers of Fifty Shades of Grey expected that we will refuse their film and they were not ready with a softer version." 



The film, which stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson as billionaire BDSM-lover and English Lit student respectively, has 20 minutes of sexually explicit scenes.

Different countries have reacted differently to the film.

Malaysia has banned the film completely. The US has given it a R rating (17 and under must be accompanied by an adult). On the other hand, 12-year olds in France have been permitted to see Fifty Shades of Grey in cinemas after the country’s classification board decided that it would not “shock a lot of people”.
